The important point for our discussion is that Scripture teaches all people came from Adam. That means that race is superficial. While we may have different genetic traits, different skin colors, and come from different cultures, we are all one race: the race of Adam.

Going back to the Old Testament, we discover that the ancient nations of the world were formed after the Tower of Babel incident. The early people of the world had settled in Shinar (Babylon) in defiance of God’s command to “fill the earth and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28). They then built a city and a tower to reach the Heavens. Such was an attempt to return to Eden on their own terms—without waiting for the Savior God had promised (see Genesis 3:15).

But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”

So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth. (Genesis 11:5–9)
